Texas and suppressors
Why East Texas Hunters Run Suppressed
Hog control at night, deer season from a box blind, dove in September — a suppressor takes the crack out of the shot, cuts recoil, and lets you hear what is moving in the brush. Texas Parks and Wildlife allows suppressors for hunting any game or non-game animal, and Texas has no state permit, registration or waiting period on top of the federal process.
We stock rimfire, pistol, rifle and multi-caliber cans from the major makers, plus the direct-thread and QD mounts, pistons and boosters to put them on your gun. Buy online for pickup in Lufkin — about an hour from Nacogdoches, Livingston, Crockett, Jasper and Center — or have your order shipped to the Texas FFL of your choice. The full step-by-step, including what changed with the 2026 NFA ruling, is on our How to Buy a Suppressor page.

How to buy
Four Steps To A Quiet Rifle
1
Choose
Pick a suppressor rated for your caliber and matched to your barrel’s thread pitch. Not sure? Call us with the make and model of the gun.
2
Order
Check out in our silencer store with pickup in Lufkin, or select your local Texas FFL / SOT at checkout.
3
Paperwork
We handle it: an electronic Form 4 filed by us with fingerprints and photo taken in our shop, $0 tax. As the ATF rolls out the 2026 ruling, qualifying buyers will move to a same-day background check.
Which Suppressor For What
For .22 LR and rimfire, a lightweight dedicated rimfire can. For 9mm pistols, a modular pistol can with a booster (piston) for your thread pitch. For 5.56 and .300 Blackout, a rifle can rated for full-auto and short barrels. For bolt guns and hog rifles in .308, 6.5 Creedmoor or .30-06, a .30-caliber can — many are rated down to .223 so one suppressor covers the safe. Ask us if you want one can to do everything.
Threads, Mounts and Pistons
Most modern rifles come threaded (1/2x28 for .22 and 5.56, 5/8x24 for .30 caliber); pistols need a threaded barrel and a booster. If your barrel is not threaded, you will need a threaded barrel or a gunsmith to thread it — ask us which thread pitch and mount to get so the suppressor fits right the first time.
Shipping Within Texas
Suppressors cannot ship to a home. From our store you can pick up in Lufkin or choose any Texas FFL / SOT dealer at checkout, and we send it dealer-to-dealer. Buying from another retailer? Name Rock House Firearms as your receiving dealer — our NFA transfer fee is $50.
Questions
Texas Silencer FAQ
More answers on our FAQ page, or contact us — we answer every message within a business day.
Are silencers legal in Texas?
Yes. Texas law allows residents to own suppressors, and the state imposes no permit, license, registration or waiting period of its own. Only the federal process through a licensed SOT dealer applies.
Can I hunt with a suppressor in Texas?
Yes. Texas Parks and Wildlife allows suppressors for hunting all game and non-game animals, including hogs, deer, dove and exotics. Many East Texas hunters consider it the single best upgrade for night hog control.
Do I need a tax stamp in Texas?
Not anymore in the sense of paying for one — the federal tax dropped to $0 on January 1, 2026. You still complete an electronic Form 4 with no tax due until the ATF finishes rolling out the 2026 ruling; see our suppressor guide for where things stand.
How long does it take to get a suppressor in Texas?
Right now every transfer goes through an electronic Form 4, and approval times have ranged from days to months depending on ATF workload. Under the 2026 federal ruling, qualifying buyers will be able to take a suppressor home the same day once the ATF finishes updating its process — we are a qualifying dealer and will switch as soon as it is clean. Call for the current status.
Do I need a gun trust?
No, but it can be worth it. On a Form 4 a trust lets every named trustee legally possess and use the suppressor. Bring your existing trust or ask us about setting one up before you file.
Where can I pick up near me?
At Rock House Firearms in Lufkin, by appointment — we serve Nacogdoches, Diboll, Huntington, Livingston, Crockett, Jasper, Center, San Augustine and the rest of East Texas. Anywhere else in Texas, choose your local FFL / SOT at checkout and we ship it there.
What brands do you carry?
Our live inventory includes SilencerCo, Dead Air, Rugged, AAC, YHM and other major makers, along with mounts, pistons and accessories. If you do not see it, call — we can usually order it.
Texas legal. Zero tax.
