The short version
Why Online Guns Still Go Through a Dealer
Federal law does not allow a firearm to be shipped to your door. Every gun bought online — from us or from any other retailer — ships to a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL), who verifies your identity, runs the FBI background check and releases the firearm to you. That dealer is the only step between you and your purchase.
Rock House Firearms is a licensed FFL and SOT in Lufkin, so you can do the whole thing in one place: buy from our online store and pick up here, or buy anywhere else and have it shipped to us as your transfer dealer. If you live outside East Texas, our store can ship your order to the FFL of your choice instead.

How It Works
1
Shop & Order
Browse our live inventory and check out like any online store. In Stock means in stock — our catalog updates from the distributors every 20 minutes.
2
Choose Your Pickup
At checkout, pick up at Rock House Firearms in Lufkin, or enter the FFL dealer near you. We handle the dealer-to-dealer paperwork.
3
We Receive It
Firearms ship to the dealer, not your house. When yours arrives we contact you to set an appointment (or your FFL does).
4
Background Check & Go
At pickup you complete ATF Form 4473 and the NICS check — usually 15–30 minutes. Most checks clear on the spot and you leave with your firearm.
What To Bring
A valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID with your current address — a Texas driver’s license or ID card is ideal. If your address has changed, bring a second government document with the new address (vehicle registration, voter card, or a renewal receipt). Texas License to Carry holders: bring the LTC too; it serves as an alternative to the NICS check, which can speed things up.
Handguns vs. Long Guns
Handguns can only be transferred to residents of the state where the dealer is licensed, so a Texas handgun buyer must pick up at a Texas FFL. Rifles and shotguns can be transferred to an out-of-state buyer as long as the sale is legal in both states. Either way, the age minimums are 21 for handguns and 18 for long guns when buying from a dealer.
If The Check Is Delayed
The FBI occasionally returns a “delayed” result instead of an instant approval. That is not a denial — it simply means they need more time, and the firearm stays with us until the check clears. Denials are rare and come from the FBI, not from us; we will explain the appeal process if it happens.
Questions
Buying Online FAQ
More answers on our FAQ page, or contact us — we answer every message within a business day.
Is it legal to buy a gun online in Texas?
Yes. Buying online is legal everywhere in the United States as long as the firearm is transferred through a licensed dealer in your state, where you complete Form 4473 and pass the background check. Texas adds no permit, registration or waiting period on top of the federal process.
Can the gun be shipped directly to my house?
No. Federal law requires every firearm sold online to ship to an FFL dealer. Ammunition, magazines, optics, parts and accessories are different — those ship straight to your address.
How long does pickup take?
Plan on 15–30 minutes. You will fill out ATF Form 4473 (we can do it electronically), we run the NICS background check, and most results come back in a few minutes. Delayed results can take up to three business days.
Do I need a License to Carry?
No. A Texas LTC is not required to buy a firearm. If you have one, bring it — ATF accepts a current Texas LTC as an alternative to the NICS check, so the pickup goes faster.
What does it cost to pick up at Rock House Firearms?
Firearms purchased from our own online store have no transfer fee when you pick up here. Firearms bought from another retailer and shipped to us are $30 per transfer, or $20 for military and first responders. NFA items such as suppressors are $50. Full details are on our FFL Transfers page.
Can I buy a handgun online if I live in another state?
You can buy from us, but the handgun has to ship to an FFL in your home state — just enter that dealer at checkout. Long guns can be picked up here in Texas by out-of-state buyers if the purchase is legal in your state too.
What if I don’t have an FFL near me?
Use our FFL finder at checkout — it searches licensed dealers by ZIP code. If you can’t find one, contact us and we will help you locate a dealer or arrange pickup in Lufkin.
How do I know what’s actually in stock?
Our catalog is connected directly to our distributors and refreshes every 20 minutes, so an item marked In Stock is available to order. In the rare event of a mismatch we contact you right away with options.
